Fire this guy already. two words Isaiah Thomas. www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on-basketball/24773996/isaiah-thomas-had-strong-interest-in-signing-with-lakers-as-free-agent
Old news. I remember that off-season and I remember we were courting bigger fish and Thomas wasn't willing to wait. He actually took a worse situation because he was so hurt in our apparent lack of interest. If I remember correctly we were talking to Carmelo? or something. Also to be fair, nobody knew Isaiah would be this good.
for that price he was signed for and his apparent interest I think we could've courted both at the same time but obviously its melo so I understand the priorities. I'm more saddened by their effort when it came to Aldridge and we let Davis sign away for pennies once again, not saying Davis is some great player but he would've been a solid asset at that price.
Several teams passed on Billups! Not just in the draft, teams who had him on their roster... Boston, Denver, Toronto, to name a few. I'm pretty sure Toronto would have liked to had Billups instead of Alvin Williams during the Vince Carter era.
Well Mitch passed on him when they had a chance to sign him with mutual interest fo both parties, instead we signed George and Billups earned his reputation against us in the Finals.
You'd think. My understanding was that Thomas was hurt that we asked him to wait and so he moved on without us. If he'd waited another week or something, I think he'd be a Laker right now.
We weren't interested in signing Thomas , it wasn't a "timing" pb . His agent "offered" him to us and the Lakers FO responded " not interested" . Later in the season , Mitch even explained the Lakers reasoning behind it ( why they didn't want to sign players of IT caliber)
Lakers were interested, it was a timing issue. http://www.silverscreenandroll.com/...ree-agency-rumor-2014-la-lakers-isaiah-thomas http://www.cbssports.com/nba/eye-on...interest-in-signing-with-lakers-as-free-agent
"I think we’ve got six or seven young players that I think all have a great future in front of them. And we have a mix of older veterans that I think are going to help our young guys mature and make progress." Translation: "And we have a mix of older veterans that will prove to be giant albatrosses in a year or two, and we cry into pint glasses of cheap gin every night knowing we will not be able to sign stars to bolster our youth because Deng and Mozgov are both in the top ten worst contracts in the league."
Nick Young is almost assured to opt out of his final year and if we waive Tarik Black we have over 30 million dollars to spend which is basically the max. We can definitely get to the max if we move Lou or something. We have the cap space to bring in another FA if we are able to. The real problem is we're unable to.
