Personally I don't trade D'Angelo unless I'm getting KD, Towns or Steph. I would be more than happy to trade any current and/or future pick and ANYONE IN STAPLES CENTER for PG... Except for Russell and Walton, that is. I've said it a few times (and I'm not the only one) that there are flashes of Steph in D'Angelo. He's 20 (just). I want to see him next year. I think he's special, all the Swaggy drama aside. I think he's a guy that sooner rather than later other fans on other teams message boards will make hypothetical trades about how to get him from us. I just want to see where we stand with him after another offseason to get up to snuff body-wise (nutrition and putting on weight/muscle) and skill wise (1000s upon 1000s of 3s put up in the gym/working with Magic) on top of working in an offense where he conceivably should get the same looks/driving lanes that Steph is currently getting. I fully understand why people are on board with the idea now, but I just have the feeling that, as soon as next year, adding him in with Randle AND Clarkson AND the pick to get PG will look like a massive overpay.
I would give up the #1 pick, JC, and Randle for Paul George, but I would have a hard time adding Russ to that. Russ with PG would be so nice.
Who doesn't like Paul George? But wow, the whole core that is attractive to Walton who sees the similarities to the championship Warriors in our young and tremendously promising core already (playing for crap coach) .... poof!! .....gone .... just like that for one player. Will defer to others here but reminds me of the epic "Russell, Randle and Clarkson Will Never Be Special" thread topic we used to have back in the day on Clublakers. Ship their a**es out I guess? Would Luke do that, like with Randle being able to legitimately approach a Draymond Green and D'Angelo a Steph Curry 3-4 years from now while being pretty awesome in the meantime?
It's all hypothetical LT. The reality is we're probably going after regular joes this summer and building slowly around the young guys. We'd be lucky to get DeRozan even though most people don't want him.
Was just listening to Mason and Ireland and Mason said DeRozan is salivating at the chance to come to the Lakers. Ireland quickly chimed in and said, "That's not what I'm hearing." John is well-informed, so that could mean one of two things. He really doesn't want to come here or Ireland knows the Lakers have cooled on him and he wants to set the fans up for the eventuality he doesn't get a pitch from us.
Oh he's getting a pitch from us. I'm guessing the Lakers are trying to cool the talks of "he's definitely coming here" in case things don't work out. The Lakers are all about under-promising and over-delivering. If they start buying into the "he's coming here 100% no matter what" then they set themselves up for failure. I happen to think DeMar would LOVE to come back here. He's an LA kid with family out here and he knows his reception would be mostly a strong one. He won't come here if we stink though.
Sorry, but I don't see it. Paul George is a superstar....a top 10 player...heck he might be top 5 or at least very close to it. If you can get him, forget about how good D'Angelo MIGHT be. Honestly, if that fiasco with Nick Young hadn't happened, I might have been there with you. But to be a LEADER and SUPERSTAR that you think D'Angelo will be? You have to earn the trust of your teammates. I'm not sure D'Angelo will ever earn that or at least not any time soon. It's going to be tough for him. People won't forget what he did so easily....I still believe he'll be a great player but I don't think he's going to be Steph Curry....you know, the greatest shooter of ALL TIME.
I agree with you that we should make that trade, but so what if he's not Steph Curry nobody is? As for the Young fiasco please that'll be forgotten within a year. That's not gonna hang over D'Angelo the rest of his career especially if he's the player everyone thinks he's gonna be. He made a bad, dumb, terrible mistake but he's freaking 20 years old. I just can't imagine a scenario where people won't wanna play with him just because of something he did when he was a kid. People will wanna play with him because he'll be an absolute stud. I don't see us acquiring Paul George so I think D'Angelo will be around a long time.
Evan Turner is cool, but he's not leaving Boston. They've treated him really well. And yeah I know you meant him as a negative.
Im glad you're not our GM! Russell is an unproven rookie with some upside. PG is a top 5 player and arguably the best two way player in the NBA. Russell may never be a top 20 player in this league. Let alone a top 5
I didn't see any need for that. The guy gave his opinion and he's right in that D'Angelo has GREAT potential. Anyone who can't say that I'm not sure you're watching him close enough. I love George, but there's no way he's a better two way player than Kawhi or even LeBron. He's great, but he's not on their level.
Ireland may be right. From what I have read, he loves the city and fans of Toronto. He has an emotional attachment. He is also very good friends with Lowry. That said, if you want DD, get Kobe in a room with him. That's his big brother and idol. That's your best shot. I have a very good fealong by the end of that meeting that DD will be a Laker.
See a need for what? Im glad many of us aren't GMs including myself. I don't see that as being offensive in anyway. And I disagree, I think PG is a top tier two way player. Along with Kawhi, lebron and butler.
GOOD! Mitch with 60 million to spend, his wand and brand new star coach who can "sell" in the meetings.
Hey, that's cool man. Your opinion, my opinion...neither means anything to the people calling the shots. Just shooting the you-know-what on a message board. And as an aside, I'm glad I'm not GM either. Way too stressful a job for my temperament.
