People just want the stability. And Mark Walters was supposed to be it. Nobody knew his money was dirty or illegal. So everyone is kind of in a cloud cause we thought this guy was gonna do everything the right way. Poof team sold. And now we don’t know what to think of kushner because supposedly he doesn’t have money or Iger We know Iger is tight with Silver. these guys have money we just aren’t sure where it’s coming from. And the last guy we weren’t sure where it was coming from and he turned out to be a fraud. The sale was a quick forced sale. And the way the sale happened screams of suspicion. So there’s going to be a lot of that. We’ll see after the press conference. one word I want is passion passionate. Passionate to own it. Seems like Jeanie her last part of ownership wasn’t as passionate about owning the Lakers. No one saw Walters and This Iger guy seems really passionate like he cares. If he does that’s a good thing and this team will be in good hands.
agree that the best thing you've got going for you as an nba fan is your owner's extreme vanity. you want them to want it more than the players, lol. then again, i suppose this describes ballmer. bet he wishes he would have waited and bought the lakers.
But when he was buying the Clippers. It was a unique opportunity. Nobody thought the Lakers would get sold. It was like priceless. He got the Clippers because Sterling played Mr. Telephone man. And it was an opportunity to own a team in L.A. so he jumped out at it. It worked he got his arena in L.A. Isn’t it amazing how these L.A. sales happen with unique opportunities. I guess Jeanie when she sold her 25% to Walters there was a clause that he would have first right to refusal if she ever sold it. So when she wanted to sale it he got first dibs on control that’s why it was set up that way. Did mark always know his money was dirty and had to setup all his deals like that??????
Maga stupid. Getting riled up thinking, that any of these politicians, really give a f*** about the "people "..that's stupid too.
I think Jeannie just burned out. Her family was a pain, she lost the passion. Glad she sold but things may not be great for awhile. But, we never know, the new owners could end out being great. Got to give them their chance. We have had s***ty owners before, does anyone remember Jack Kent Cooke? He sucked.
Jack Kent Cooke was tighter then jeans on Kim Kardashians butt. He wouldn’t spend and just wanted to sale to Jerry Buss was different. Seems like Iger might be another Buss passionate we just don’t know where the money is coming from.
We'll just have to see how it all plays out. I assume whatever cash flow concerns there are, will get addressed by the League approval of the sale. Considering Walter's situation, this sale may get a little more scrutiny. However IMO...This is the age of the gilded billionaire, and pretty much anything goes, if your dough is long enough.
Yeah, definitely wasn't a CP3 fan but he is a sharp guy who I think would do fine in a front office as long as its the right role. Between him and Iger, that's a lot of potential relationships we would instantly have across the league and media.
I missed the weekend convo, but I also feel like the initial response is understandable but a bit overblown. This feels very much like a singular event brought on by a guy scrambling to keep his entire empire from completely crumbling. I don't know how much of a larger trend there is here unless a lot more owners have built their empires completely on funny money.
I think Silver was heavily involved in all of this from the jump and will guide this one across the finish line. Too much is at stake and the other owners know that too.
The investigation has just started according to the Wall Street journal. At this point I don’t know how Mark Walters keeps the Dodgers. This was definitely a forced sale.
Absolute insane stuff today, what a f***ing circus. I don’t know anything about Kushner, and I don’t like Iger, but I’m ready for them to clean house and move on. I don’t think Bob Myers is much better at the GM job than Rob, but I do think he’s better with relationships around the league and players, so I do wonder if he could be brought in for the right price. Or any number of other guys who are available, like the Knicks guy who quit a bit ago.
