nobody told cade cunningham that reaves sucks. https://lakersnation.com/lakers-rumors-cade-cunningham-tried-to-recruit-austin-reaves-to-pistons/
I think these guys have their minds manipulated by agents and their entourage. He can downright sign a 200 million dollar contract at 22. He gets set for life in a very good team and can get at least 2 more bags. His life is good forever. But he wants the 300 million which he will probably not get by any team in his career and faces the possibility of going to FA and ending really bad for him. It's a shame good careers get put in jeopardy because of this mindset.
has det's actual offer been leaked? i think duren is right to want more than kessler got, as he was all nba and has been more durable and part of a winning team. but if you're right and they're offering like, reaves's salary and he wants the supermax, then yeah, that's a blunder. there's no way to get that on the open market next year, either. edit: just read that their offer is more in the kessler range. in that case, i don't get why they don't just give him the 40 per, tbh. fuss about whose option the last year is, etc., but why create a situation like this when you're right near contention? if he signs that QO, you're both kind of screwed. he loses 25-30m this year, and may not make it up next year in UFA. they lose him as a trade asset and likely have a mentally checked out player, too. bad news bears. also, just want to add that if they were going to max reaves and not duren, i get why he's annoyed. i think reaves is worth more, but sometimes you have to pay a bit more to keep the harmony, as i advocated here with reaves.
You mean, can he play at MVP level for a part of the season and near All Star level for the rest? Sure, I’ve already seen it.
i enjoy you being so positive all the time about the team I just hope that it comes true and this team gels and goes far in the playoffs And to bring another championship/s home
yeah, my brief answer is that if he shows up and is the same guy as last year, he's already earning his contract. never was worried about it, still not. and he clearly wasn't just a fun story when everyone was dogpiling on him for his playoff performance. he's already being held to the standards people are now threatening to apply, lol.
Unlike recent claim here by (not wanting to jerk the chain) JJ said early last season that the season before he already had the respect of players in the league …. they knew he “was a bad man”. << (from memory) Actual quotes: JJ Redick stated in a postgame press conference in early 2025 that Austin Reaves had "established himself as a bad dude" and that he had already built that reputation around the league the previous year. [1, 2] Redick's Comments on Reaves The "Bad Dude" Quote: Redick remarked, "What tier he is, I don't know. I don't care about that, but I think last year he established himself as a bad dude,"highlighting his high-level competitive toughness. [1, 2] Leaguewide Respect: Redick noted that leading into that stretch, Reaves was already widely viewed across the NBA as a high-caliber player who delivers in big moments. [1, 2]
The thing with Austin is the playoffs performance. When you bounce up to a 40M dollar contract, the scrutiny ramps up..as it should. That's my guy, but he's going to have to step up his game in the postseason. Over the last two playoffs, Austin is shooting 40% from the field and under 30% from 3. He's also been dealing with injury issues in the last two postseasons. Those are legitimate concerns, and if it's a similar thing this season, the noise is going to get real loud about those concerns. 12M contract?..no biggie...40M contract?..very big deal. Ie..The Duren kid is 22 years old..made an allstar team and the all NBA team last season. Numbers dropped in the playoffs and all of sudden his value drops..
Thanks for repeating all this for the 680th time on this site. Certainly. Everyone gets it. And we’re going to hear it all season long no matter if he’s killing it or not. Ad nauseum.
Meh..I can be critical of MY guy if I want. I don't have to be swayed by your thousandth post, about his potential greatness. I pegged him as a baller as a rookie...today is today though. Austin will be 28 this upcoming season...the potential stuff starts carrying less weight once the salary ramps up.
