i'm guessing they have our 10m offer in their pocket, and both sides are just waiting it out. if he signs elsewhere, i expect our last move to follow very shortly after. if nothing happens, i'll assume we're done.

I'm thinking Rob is pretty much a genius for this offseason makeover. He turned Bron into all this?

    Duuuuuuude. HOF worthy.

I'd love this approach. I really don't want to chase Kuminga and cave to his stupid agent. I like to set the price and let it play out as signing him only makes sense for me if it's reasonable within the team structure and strategy.

He needs to come with something to prove and not the entitled b he has been so far in the league.

If we're being honest, he turned Bron, Rui, Ayton, Hayes, Kennard, and Smart into all this.

in fairness, it would be hard for me to watch watson about to sign a big deal when i've probably been a much better player than him over the course of our time in the league.

but again, i'd just want to preserve my bird rights, first and foremost. then i'd want a place where i felt i'd be guaranteed minutes and a platform on which to prove myself. the total dollar amount in year one wouldn't be the biggest factor for me, if i believed in myself as much as this guy seems to. if he blew up here and was a bona fide third offensive option, he'd get a long-term deal starting near 25 from us next year. i'm not sure, say, cleveland will have the ability to do that with their cap situation.

    Plus Austin Reaves. ;)

From LG .... kikanga. "I expected more talent incoming with the $70M yearly salary we lost with Bron and Rui."

Yeah I see the same. His fit with us from a need and skillset is so seamless that it's miles away from any other context he'll find in the league.
Which is why I'm getting pissed with this stall, which seems to be related with his AAV and him and his agent trying to get every dollar they can.

He has a starting spot in a Luka-led team that just went all-in to overhaul 80% of the roster and locked in for the next 3/4 years. Plus, if the team is to do any upgrade in that timeline is on the 3 position pushing Grimes to 6th man where he's better slotted.

He should be telling his agent "just get me there any way you can and STAT! I'll take care of the rest".
He's not and honestly it's showing to me he won't come with the mindset he needs. He literally has no one who can steal his place if he's just average even. Super low risk and huge reward. So I honestly won't be pissed if he doesn't come, even if we do nothing else

Kobe was real clear about these types of guys needing to be convinced to become Lakers. Although it's of course a lot of money he's trying to recoup from the bad advice of his agent, who's still giving it to him.

If he actually could get substantially more money from another team I do not begrudge him at all for trying to doing so.

The thing is, he could very well feel slighted that we could offer him the amount of money he is looking for but we don't want too. So he may end up somewhere else for less, for the only reason, that we didn't want to offer him the most that we could (which would be an upper limit of 25m if we sent out both Knecht & Vando or 15.1m if we only sent out one guy like a Hardy).

Here’s my whole take. Kaminga should fire his agent. His agent is a piece of s***. His agents already cost him millions. Whenever you’re in the league and you have a shot at big money you take it. That 75 million is 75 million. Bonzi Wells did the same thing never saw that Money again. Dennis Shroeder.

what’s he going to get from Cleveland? What’s the benefit on playing with Cleveland. You’ve still got wings who are going to be getting in there to start.

the Lakers are the best situation. We need Kaminga as much as he needs us. He needs us to showcase him for a big payday. Say all the right things. This organization gets it. I’m mature winning culture I’ve changed my game. I’m playing the right way. Everything Rui did and you get paid. If not here somewhere else. I actually think he can be an all star here. He has all the skill to do it.

he’s the missing piece we are a deeper team with him. You can get him the ball in the post. Takes alot off of Luka and Reaves.

look Kesslers great. But can we just throw him the ball and say get us a bucket.? I think he’s more Bynum than Gasol.

Kaminga will be the third offensive option.

Now here’s where we’re f***ing up. Get the deal done. Pay the f***ing man. Don’t nickel and dime him. That’s b*******. Make Luka happy. Make Reaves happy and let’s go. Enough of this b*******. 20 or 25 million just get the guy his f***ing money. Stop d***ing around Rob and get it done.

this is the kind of move from a basketball standpoint really has us challenge OKC and San Antonio. See Minnesota didn’t care about the character s*** they just got Lamelo to apiece Edwards. Just get it done.

Here’s where we are the difficult matchup. Kaminga makes us a championship contender because now. These guys are coming off of our bench.

    Thiero

    Carr

    Williams

    Mamu

    James

    Sexton

that’s a completely different team we are so deep. Now we can throw different matchups and teams at you and come in Waves.

that’s what OKC and San Antonio does. That’s what the Knicks did. It completely changes us. And If Rob doesn’t see the basketball he shouldn’t be in his job.

We just got Thybulle that gives us another dimension. Let Kaminga focus on scoring and providing defense and I really don’t see a team except those top 2 that can get with us.

I really think you're reading this wrong and looking at it from more the market/lakers point of view and not on what's motivating Kuminga and his team. The guy seems SUPER money motivated and we're here talking about him taking a 10m AAV contract, I think they view that as insulting.

    These are the facts:
    • Kuminga declined a 5 year 150m (30m AAV) extension with Golden State and was asking for 5 years 175m (35m AAV)
    • He then declined a 3 year 75m contract the following year
    • He finally settled for a 2 year 48.5m contract with a team option
    • The guy works on iso offense with his own skills team away from the coaching staff who want him to work on defence and shooting
    • He has been let go by two teams now for not following the role they want from him
I think Kuminga and his team see himself as a 2nd option already and someone capable of putting up 20/8 with usage and minutes - they probably want to work towards a max. We're at totally different spectrums and that's why this deal isn't done. It really wouldn't shock me if the Kuminga team is suffering from Endowment Bias in overrating Kuminga's skillset and Anchoring Bias in wanting more than 30m AAV.

To get this deal done, I think we need to be at that 20m mark and if we get him for less, I think he'll be trying to show out all year to put up numbers for a huge contract (maybe even to the detriment of the team).

yeah, i'm not going to try to imagine what's going on in the guy's head or get mad about it ahead of time. i could imagine situations he'd prefer to our offer, and he should be free to pursue those. i don't think delaying means he doesn't want to play here or isn't "laker material" or whatever. i think he's feeling like had his circumstances been different, he'd be on a 5/150 right now in sacramento or something, ready to be dealt to a contender as an overpaid non-star a la young andrew wiggins. instead, he's scrounging, largely due to stuff outside his control. i'd be pretty upset, too. and if my agent was telling me i could land a starting gig in cleveland at a higher dollar amount, i'd keep the door open.

Yeah I don't know why this is so complicated. His agent is probably telling him you can either get like 2yrs$20 million from the Lakers, or maybe a little more than that from the Cavs or someone else. The Lakers offer is going to be there so let's just see how things shake out after LeBron signs. It's that simple.

I don't think anyone is getting mad or is saying he isn't laker material... the most I or anyone else have said is that he doesn't want the role we have for him. No one minds what Kuminga thinks of himself or his monetary worth. I'm just trying to deduce where his side is coming from in their negotiations. Throughout his whole career they've always pushed for more money - that's undeniable.

I mean, Kuminga already turned down a 5 year - 150m contract with Golden State because he wanted 35m AAV, which was reported by Shams and NBC Bayside. I think the guy saw his draft mates getting these deals and thought well I'm better than some (or most) of these guys:
    • Cade Cunningham (#1 pick) - 5 years, $224 million
    • Jalen Green (#2 pick) - 3 years, $106 million
    • Evan Mobley (#3 pick) - 5 years, $224 million
    • Scottie Barnes (#4 pick) - 5 years, $224 million
    • Jalen Suggs (#5 pick) - 5 years, $150.5 million
    • Franz Wagner (#8 pick) - 5 years, $224 million
    • Alperen Sengun (#16 pick) - 5 years, $185 million
    • Trey Murphy (#17) - 4 years, $112 million
    • Jalen Johnson (#20 pick) - 5 years, $150 million
We'll see what happens, but this is a fascinating situation when it comes to contract negotiations.

i keep seeing he declined 5/130, but the article i read said that his agent floated that number, and gs balked. which, after talking him up as the torch bearer, is kind of weird.

i know it's not a popular opinion, but i'm not sure gs is well-managed at this point. i think they lucked into the curry/green/thompson/kerr group and have basically fumbled about since. i just don't put a lot of stock into what happened there. then signing a contract designed to be traded, and then being traded to a team that had a recent #1 pick and then an actual franchise cornerstone playing your exact position...just not sure why everyone reads this with so much confidence that he's a bad seed.

the irony to me is that everyone seems to love dennis schroder, who's EXACTLY who everyone is trashing kuminga for appearing to be.

not sure why this is considered prima donna behavior, is what i was saying above. jalen green is worth 35 per and i'm not? you said i'm carrying this place after steph!

as far as being turned off by our offer...possibly. it is what it is. turning it down to spite us would be schroder-level dumb. he'll turn it down if he gets an offer closer to what he wants, which makes sense and doesn't make him a villain. he got jobbed by RFA, a bungling warriors front office, and an agent who's clearly in over his head.

i'll be thrilled if we manage to get him at basically any price we could reasonably offer right now.

Golden state was trust between him and Kerr who lied and said he was going to showcase him and then traded for Jimmy Butler.

So let me ask you the question. Your Jonathan Kaminga you get drafted there okay

Klay leaves in Free agency Wiggins is traded when are you going to get your shot?????

Everybody says your a professional and deserve it. Including your locker room Captains including Curry and Green. So what is it????

then Kerr just decides to not play you when you’re trying to get paid. So you how would you act????

He goes to Atlanta Jalen Johnson is there.

now his agent and him are idiots. What’s the difference between 150 million and 175 million????? Take the money. Ask Austin Reaves.

the Lakers need to bring him to the team.

I love it that we haven’t caved at a much larger price for him.
If it ends up at something like $15 mil AAV, I would be fine with it.
That’s still a tradeable salary for a young player.

Yeah Abeer it’s just a man trying to get paid.

trust me we will win with him.

I’ve seen this. Some of yall are young.

    1. Rasheed Wallace before he got to Portland Washington Bullets

    2. Chris Webber before he got to the Sacramento Kings Washington Bullets.

    3. Robert Horry before he got to the Lakers Phoenix suns. I remember Laker fans saying we traded Cedric Ceballos for this guy. I remember telling Laker fans you gotta space the floor with Shaq.

    4. Jermaine O’Neal before he got to Indiana on Portland.

    5. there was a player an owner said what do you know about this guy? The GM said well he’s a bit of a prick. The owner said well is he a 5 point a game prick or a 40 point a game prick? The GM said he’s a 40 point a game prick then the Owner said well get the guy.

if a player can play bring him in.
