Love the defensive breakdown from Sam and now let’s expand his mid and outside shooting touch so he can’t be played off the floor in playoffs …. Mark Walter

I’ve made myself cope with the picks based on this old report, and the old reporting that previously they wanted like 2 pick and Reaves for him. He really wasn’t available for less it seems.

Does Kess have any "mean" / OK I'm remembering that (cheap shots to him or mates) .... see you later to him?

Didn't take Wemby long to pick it up! Out of necessity.

Does he realize where the ESPN mothership is located?

NAH these guys are probably LOVING the clicks this will bring. It's the whole era they ushered in and why they pay a-holes like him and Bayless big bucks.

Man really going to miss Smart’s actual likes-to-fight (if needed) toughness on the team. LeBron’s too. I fear it’s going to be now the NBA’s version with Austin .. maybe Luka too of the WNBA’s current players “relationship” with Caitlin Clark situation. Will Thiero be like that? Mamu? Kessler? Luka and AR aren’t shrinking violets but it could put a lot of extra bruises and wear and tear on them if not enough screw you back toughness on the squad.

If healthy, he's a top 10 center. He'll be a great fit, if healthy. Of course the casuals will look at stats and say, "we gave up all that for him," when in reality, it's about fit and skillset. He'll be good. Just stay healthy.

Waited till he got that new money to get the ring.

Or she waited until they got the f*** out of Utah to say yes.

I'm not too worried about Kessler's health, considering that his games played per season numbers the past few years were very likely dragged down a bit as part of Utah's extended tanking efforts the past several years.

his numbers look really good but on top of the injury history he's never been asked to play big minutes. he averaged 23 approximatey his first 2 years. got up to 30 his third year and the injuries piled up.

also found this interesting his rationale from transferring from UNC was interesting: part covid/family, part his entourage wanted him to play modern stretch 5 basketball. just weird for a guy who wants to shoot his FT shooting is bad that's usually a pretty good indicator if you can improve your jumper

I want to keep Kessler around 30 minutes per game or less. That would be easier to do if we still had Ayton or Hayes, but I think JJ wants some minutes with Mamu at the 5 (which would require us having another good forward) and then probably a few minutes with an actual backup center. I think in his mind, someone like Richards would be fine for that purpose.

yeah, our backup center will need to play about 15mpg bc i'm guessing mamu is going to play about 5-10mpg at center. only problem is that when kessler misses time, that backup center is going to have to step it up a bit, so a kevon looney might be a dangerous proposition. richards would make the most sense, but i haven't seen him connected to us? also, he's probably vet min at this point, right? could have signed him already. maybe he's hoping chicago pays him a bit more? but they signed collins and traded for claxton (and i think still have jalen smith under contract).
