Is Wade a point-of-attack defender?

 

no. he's a sf/pf like rui, lebron, and luka on defense. i like him, but he only makes sense if we basically blow it all up and lose all the FAs, starting over. even then, i don't love the fit, tbh.

 

I'd love to keep him, but Smart is about at the age where this type of player tends to fall off a cliff physically, so giving him a multi-year deal is a big risk. They saved us last year with DFS and seem determined to save us again.

If I were the Rockets I'd be targeting Kennard instead of Smart tbh. Udoka seems committed to this caricature of defense and toughness in his teams at the expense of everything else. If they want to give all of their PG minutes to 32 year old FVV coming off an ACL and 32 year old Smart instead of Reed Sheppard that sounds great to me.

 

Interesting that the report is that Wade’s named as a fit for the Lakers by “rival executives.”

We’re in the season of reporting random speculation by non-Lakers people as gospel.

 

I wonder if the Houston/Smart smoke is actually a S&T for Eason, but our half of the equation hasn't leaked since our FO never leaks transaction stuff.

 

someone referred to him as a potential replacement for smart, which really meant: good player we can bring in instead. but imo, if you're going to spend the room exception or more on wade, why not just do it for smart, who you already know fits here? it would be different if this was like last year, where we signed a cheaper, younger player as an attempt to replace an outgoing older, more expensive one. wade wouldn't be that.

we currently project to have space, so agents are like "the lakers love my guy". and we might. but that doesn't mean we're signing them.
