Austin Reaves Discussion: How Much Is He Worth?

It's a good point, there's a lot of context on each of these contracts.
As there is for AR too where it's bad asset management if we don't sign him for such contract

In any case it's the market rate and I'm pretty sure it's brought up in negotiations by agents and players looked at it for sure when deciding their number

 

Ok..we have some names..I say he's in that 3rd group. Maybe close 2nd? Suggs is overrated to me..I'd definitely take Austin over him. Kyrie is at 40M next season and beyond..he belongs in the top group.

I'd take sleepy over Austin, Kyrie, Franz,Ja, Garland, MPJ, push on Green and Bane.

 

Going in a different direction here...

Luka wants Austin so he should have Austin IMO. Frankly Luka can have his old Dallas crew back, if that's what he wants, sans Kyrie I guess. That's all cool by me.

However Luka needs to win a chip here pretty soon...next 2-3 seasons , or HE can go on the trading block himself, as far as I'm concerned. That will be 5 post-seasons. Might as well move him while he still has value at that point.

Barring injuries..4 if injuries come into play.

 

Yes, I would trade AR + a 1st for Kawhi. You and I both know that if Kawhi is fully healthy, he fits this team better than AR could ever.

Yeah no s***. You think if Kawhi was fully healthy, you would be able to even trade for Kawhi? Lol. You would need Reaves and 3-4 first rounders. I think Kawhi being on his final year of a contract will show up and play.

Yes, Kyrie is injured but ACL's aren't the doomsday injury it used to be. Kyrie will still be a 20/4/6 player and you know this. But you also get rid of Vando's horrible contract and get a serviceable player in PJ and Lively. You obviously know it's a better team and wouldn't cost the Lakers much. No need to even think about it.

 

I never said don't sign him. I'm saying if other teams are willing to do a trade for Reaves, you have to entertain it. But obviously you sign Reaves or you lose his Bird Rights which is basically Lakers losing his cap hold also for no reason. It'd be stupid to let Reaves walk. Is there anyone who suggested we should? This discussion from me was if you could trade Reaves for a better player, you do it. Because I don't think the fit with Luka is particularly good to begin with and I don't see AR as a championship 2nd option in the league. Just my opinion.

The amount of $ you sign him to also matters. Do teams see Reaves as a max player? What if in the future you want to trade him? His contract looks a lot better if it was $10m less per year. Make it a max contract and it doesn't look as good.

 

Luka should have his LeBron calling for AD moment. If Austin is his call..so be it.

what fact? fact is: players who produce like reaves get bigger paydays than you're suggesting. fact. all kinds of examples posted. then excuse-making from you and slick. or stuff like "desmond bane is better because i said so". great, ok. lots of folks wouldn't.

 

I said what I said. I also remember when some folks around here, threw a hissy fit, when I said Austin was going to be a better player than Caruso, and that it wouldn't take long either.

He's still my guy, but I have differing views on value compared to some other kids.

 

well, part of that was you saying caruso was nothing special and would be bad without lebron.

 

Let's see I said

1. He wasn't worth paying 35M in luxury tax
2. That KCP actually had a tougher role on the team.
3. His effectiveness started to fade after around 20 mins a game.
4. That he had a cult like following around here that overhyped him.

Yep..said all that..still accurate today.

Actually, there are reasons that Reaves current contract this year could impact us with flexibility. It has to do with staying underneath the first apron to unlock optionally on trades.

If we’re below the apron we can aggregate players, we can take back 7.5m more than what we send out. So in that situation a Vando and Knecht salary of 16.6 can actually return us 24.1m. So if we keep Reaves lower, it lets us bring back more of our guys and conduct 1-2 trades while staying below the first apron.

 

As were Rondo, and KCP.

 

Just facts of what you said nothing more nothing less.I don’t care what AR makes or if he stays (he will) or goes.Like I have said numerous times AR is a very good player but my opinion is if they want that Athletic Luka centric team as quickly as possible they should trade him.I don’t expect that.doesn’t mean I hate AR.Also doesn’t mean sometime in the future they could be real contenders

Personally I don’t see it happening.Especially with LeBron being a high injury risk at his age and all the pieces they need . We will see what we will see though
