Adou finally gets some playing time and we get some glimpses of what he can do Looking for big things and improvement over the summer
Hope he stays healthy through the summer and plays as much as possible in summer league Key summer for him, needs to remain healthy and show some improvement on his game. I don't mind if he starts shooting or not, it's still early for that. He needs to develop on what he's already good and just be a guy that the coach can trust, notably on the defensive end. Footwork, lateral speed, reads, play through screens, etc Would even say he stands more to win on the short term if he becomes an above average rebounder than the shooting part, for next year. He has the hops, so should become a nice rebounder in his career
Really raw. I love his tools and I'm just mad that he wasn't given short stints to work on clear issues. Too foul happy: he's got to trust his positioning and not give up cheap fouls. In addition he's not going to be able to dunk everything work on a floater or pump fake and he goes to get it the line a ton
This was filthy, man, I hope he can get some minutes this series, get some playoff experience, I’m assuming there’s going to be plenty of garbage time
just unreal the lakers never found time this season to play with luka and lebron james - those hops with two of the greatest passers ever and the Lakers said nay we're good we got Vando and Jake
I mean he was injured for 2/3rds of the season and then we went on a huge winning streak where everyone was playing well to end the season. He’ll get his time next year - he needs to stay healthy first.
I know you don't like Jake, but I think he has been excellent in his role. Guy's defending hard every night and gobbled up minutes, offensively he left a lot to be desired but there is two sides to the ball. Meanwhile, Adou had a knee injury at the end of college, that he still wasn't right to play on for preseason and to begin the season. He came back in November and JJ actually gave him a run of 15 out of 17 games. Then he strained his MCL ligament in the opposite knee. Missed 6 weeks, came back for 2 games and then had more knee swelling. Once he finally came back, we were in march and on our streak. Once the guys got injured, he played Adou to finish the season. I'm just not sure what the fuss is about? Where could JJ have played him more when the guy missed 2/3rds of the season. I'd also like a fully developed Adou playing, I think that archetype helps us immensely, but it's just not realistic this year.
man the excuses give for a person who hustles is insane. He not only been awful on offense, he make dumb turnovers and he's not a defensive stopper. He's been Gabe with more effort. I'm also known as the guy who has pointed out over and over again that coaches consistently end up sitting Vando and guess what the same thing happened again this year and I thought Vando outplayed him. The amount of flak for pointing out the Vando problems is now being transferred to Jake So yes I do think when he did get healthy a guy like Adiou should be tried. We've seen this happen thru the years where bench guys add sparksand the Lakers simply don't have enough talent at the back end of the rotation that you don't give guys a shot to play
NO. Hard disagree. He has much more upside and has contributed all season on defense. That said yeah I too could have seen Adou get some of his minutes to no real ill effect in the overall scheme of things, which would have had Adou further along at present.
interestingly, advanced stats really don't like laravia...on defense... his offense is rated meh and defense less than meh. vando, predictably, rates quite well on defense, but terrible on offense (matching eye test): gabe's brutal everywhere, so no, that's not a fair comparison: guessing vando's going to be moved as soon as we can. if jake just gets his threeball up to snuff, i think he becomes solid but not spectacular on both ends, and thus totally fine as a 9th man, which is his proper slot. the hope is that thiero can become a 4th/5th level player, but soonest that's possible would be year after next, imo.
Regarding the last part, THIS is why I thought it was important to give young Adou as many reps this year as possible. I’m just tired of the narrative that “he was injured all season.” He wasn’t. He was injured SOME of the season. It’s mostly frustrating since he could provide the things this team was sorely lacking. Was he going to be ready in time to take on serious burn against OKC this year? No, but he would be further along in his development. Now, we will have to burn current and future assets sooner to trade for someone who will bring what Adou could. Championship teams these days have to have multiple developed players on cost controlled contracts because of Silver’s decision to drastically hamper player movement.
he was injured a lot, and coming off a pretty serious injury in the beginning. i also think having a good chunk of the roster on expirings didn't help (any time you cut into, say, rui's minutes, you're potentially costing him money). i'm also just not sure that had he even gotten more burn that he'd be ready sooner than after next year. peyton watson--the guy we'd all like to sign to fill a similar (but not the same) role--took 4 years.
