one of my good friends in grad school was from croatia, and pretty much all curses involved threats of sexual relations with mothers, often perpetrated by dogs, etc.

i'm wondering if luka's really saying that goga said something about his ongoing offcourt family issues? i don't know.

i don't think you can appeal a technical based on whether you feel the outrage was justified, else i can imagine a bunch over the years that the league would have had to rescind due to players freaking out about objectively terrible calls by officials.

 

If we had a just commish, any player spewing words about someone’s family, spouse, girlfriend, as well as any racial ones should be suspended for 10 games on the first offense. Second offense: 30. Third: entire season.
This would clean up this garbage in no time.

i'm saying there are different cultural norms about this, and i'd kinda be surprised if luka hadn't done similar at some point? would be interesting to hear an expanded discussion of it, tbh.

like, where does acceptable trash talk end? and i'm being serious--like, you're allowed to call me a punkass mother****** in front of 20,000 people, but if you say something about my mother, then that's the line? are the refs supposed to be able to police the language as well as the game (which they can barely pull off to begin with)?

i mean, my personal feeling is that you shouldn't engage in such behavior. i never talked trash about people's family; my code was to keep it about what was happening on the court, but i'm not sure my experience as a semi-talented jv basketball player matches the intensity and competitiveness of these guys.

i do think that goga's response doesn't make him sound very innocent here, so at the very least, goga's teams can expect to chalk up a bunch of Ls when luka sees them in the future.

 

It worked. Luka didn't shoot well after that and it got him suspended. Right or wrong got nothing to do with it.

 

This past summer, I was pounding the desk to bring Goga to LA via trade. With what he said to Luka, that’s out the window now. I really don’t get these journeyman type guys like Goga burning bridges with the elite superstars of the NBA. You never when you may need a job in one of those cities down the line.
