And this is my worry about throwing the big bag at HIM. He tends to fold against physical defenders. Was bullied vs Boston.

I’ve said he deserves whatever we pay him, but yeah, you know what, there’s 2 sides to the ball and maybe we can negotiate a few mil off for that. Got abused by Pritchard, and struggled against physical defense. Don’t think we are going to be able to be a contender if he’s making more than 35 mil per year.

they're really going to regret paying him this summer

guy folds immediately at the slightest bit of physical play

We'll see what he's made of in the playoffs... if we make it out of the play-in.

It's most likely going to be a very short playoff run.

he'll make more elsewhere, and pay less taxes than good ol CA. If we don't offer the max, he's gone. However, I'm not convinced we don't try to look at our options and get him the max at the same time. (Giannis)

Jovan mentioned the floor being $35 million last night, and I think that's about right, but we will see.

If I'm Rob, I'm really monitoring the PO's & his performance. As Jovan pointed out, aside from last year, he really hasn't been that bad in the PO's, and that's accurate from what I could remember when he was the number 3 option behind AD & LBJ.

I'm not attempting to defend him, but we have to be realistic. We can't let him walk for free. If anything, you can trade him after you sign him and you see it isn't working out. Our options are just limited right now.

I'm also not going to knock his performance last night; the team just isn't well constructed, IMO. Plus, I'm in a good mood this morning.

Go where? The only team besides us that can pay him 40M is Brooklyn. I haven't seen anything that suggests that the Nets are that hot for Austin.

Austin is my boy, but his performance in the playoffs this season are a huge factor.

He was outstanding in his 1st playoffs..the shooting numbers have dropped in the last two though. That must improve or we are going to have a tough decision to make IMO.

Compared to what other shooting guards are making, where do you slot him?

Looking at other teams with cap space..It's iffy if he gets offered more than 30M per IMO. Business is Business..I love this kid but I'm not opposed to holding firm at around 30M. Unless he balls out and improves back towards his 1st year's performance

Good stuff, and thanks for sharing. If we play hardball, I bet we lose. There is time for teams to clear some salary cap to make a splash if they want to. But it IS VERY INTERESTING to see the options are not as great as you might think. If nothing else, there is potential for that to play in our favor.
