That's my thought and my hesitance for the current group to make any moves before Walter can fully get his group integrated. What is our long term vision? I see some moves that on their own might not blow anyone away, but add them together and we just might have something. but it feels like we will again get caught up with going after the big name.

But wasn't it part of the sale to Walther, that specifically called for her to remain governor for 5 years? That's the fine print of that sell, that I'm interested in. I thought that was odd as F.

I do think it said something like that but I took that more to be a formality for the NBA to agree to the sale. I would believe that Walters/Buss could come out in time and announce that Jeanie has decided to step away for personal reasons….yada yada.

Rob’s clock is ticking. If we do nothing at the deadline, he needs to go. There are avenues to improve the team without compromising the future and there’s been too many instances where he simply hasn’t delivered.

The Luka trade fell in his lap. Without that, there isn’t much to show for the past few years. The time is now.

Like c'mon! Not even one move? If you can't get Giannis, it's totally fine! No one really expects the Lakers to be able to get him truthfully.

But at least find a way to get two players who can play minutes and use the roster spot up instead of Maxi, Knecht, and Gabe. We've seen nothing from those three and they're just taking up valuable roster spots.

With Reaves coming back, it'll give Bron and Luka more energy to rest and hustle more so I still think this team has a chance in the playoffs when the game is slowed down and more in the Lakers favor since they have 3 elite playmakers. But you need more depth. 2-3 role players and this team instantly becomes more dangerous since they're essentially a 8 man roster right now between: LeBron, Luka, Reaves, Ayton, Rui, Smart, Jake, and Hayes. If Ayton/Rui are having a slow game, the Lakers need 100 points from their big 3 to win games...

I'm sure Rob has something cooking. We need a POA or wing defender. I hope we get at least 1 of our 2 needs.

at this point, i'm hoping for hot dog stand buyouts for gabe and kleber to allow us to sign two living humans on buyouts.

e.g., i think jevon carter would be good here.

Think outside the box Rob. Lebron clogged up the cap, but you can still improve the team a bit.

Biggest offseason of his career this summer. I trust he'll do good
3 FRPs, 50 to 60M in cap space

Plan: Let Bron, Rui and Kleber walk. Focus in getting 2 starter wings and more depth

    RFA targets: Watson
    PO: Wiggins, Green, KCP
UFA: Ayo, Grimes, Thybulle, Huerter, Harris (kinda washed but maybe withva massive pay cut), Agbaji, Williams III, Okogie, Payton, Brown, Melton, Ellis, Landale, Tate, Goodwin, Vince Williams

    Re-sign: Smart, Ayton, Kennard, Hayes
Sign: Watson to 35mil, Ellis or Ayo up to MLE, Agbaji for up to 6, Landale for up to 6
Trade: Dort into space for 3 FRPs. We solve OKC a financial problem and maybe overpay for an expiring. If not, try Murphy III or Herb. Send Knecht somewhere

    You get this:
    Luka | Ellis | Bronny
    AR | Smart | Agbaji
    Dort | Kennard | Thiero
    Watson | LaRavia | Vando
    Ayton | Landale | Hayes

I think this would be an home run. Maybe you don't get all those guys, but there's alternatives. This is the concept I would like to see being followed. Wings, athleticism, size and defense.

I can handle an overpay on Watson. He's really young so only depreciates if he REALLY flops and this crazy run was a one-off. Find it very unlikely and worst case scenario he's an athletic defender with a big contract that some team may want to take a gamble.

    Do it Rob.

:Kobedisbelief: ....the "one" time. First call of FA direct to Jake, it was real clear after looking at tape he was going to be a solid replacement for DFS's perimeter D, plus bunch of other stuff and like 8 years younger and 6-7G less money. Yet stupid Rob was getting hammered over letting the guy walk and accused of actually carrying on a campaign of bad mouthing his physical condition. The guy just had freaking surgery and who knows when he'd be available again. Looks like maybe never.

yeah, LT had a more detailed response, but man...so much vitriol about the handling of DFS when the primary mistake was even trading for him in the first place. but because the fans loved it, we don't revisit it.

i also love how DFS got mad at us for telling the truth to other gms about why we weren't offering him a big deal. uhhh....cuz you're dead? should have opted in instead of trying to squeeze us. jake and we win.

agree--the DFS rental was a bad move in retrospect (i was one of the few who was lukewarm on the move at the time, btw).

i don't think it cost us too much as if we had those 2nds, we might have moved some of them (instead of bought some) during the summer shuffle for thiero (can't remember which ones we gave up anyway), and guys were going for more than that this year (e.g., didn't want coby white on a DFS special).

good to hear we're looking to beef up the FO, in any case. we need relationships, and we don't have them right now.

i want to save these posts just in case mark williams signs a big contract and returns to not being able to play ever.

edit: btw, the posts i meant weren't here, but rather the twitter folks piling on about the williams trade only now that it's looking like a mistake. the whole point was that we felt that his health issues were too dangerous to throw future draft capital at. unless you believe that mark williams was going to deliver a ring last year, it's pretty hard to argue this is a big mistake until we see what williams looks like next year and beyond--how much is he paid? how healthy is he? how good is he?

this year, he's been very good and very healthy. but it wasn't about this year.

DK plummeting from a great prospect to a negative asset really hurt us.

time will tell whose fault that was. I can’t help but think we just have a terrible organizational environment for development. No mistakes tolerated.

Agreed. I keep that in mind when I see some of these guys play well elsewhere. I don’t know that they would have done as well with us.
