Lots to like about Rui, but he's an unrestricted Free Agent. We're kind of in a pickle. You don't want to lose him for nothing, but he may not be willing to stay for a bench role.
Do we know what is happening with the King? Does it fit our potential budget and whoever else we might go after? (Giannis, etc)

 

Over the years we have seen a lot of guys walk for nothing. I agree with the thought of grabbing some picks instead of just letting Rui go if we know we don't plan to resign him. Problem is, I don't know if we know if we want to resign him or not.

I can easily see him going ahead and signing elsewhere while we chase Giannis.

 

I think the King is gone.

Also think there's a solid chance we end up missing his production more than some think we will.

 

I would not be shocked if they offer him 2 years at a reduced amount if he stays. That's my current working theory. But Luka an AR make this team watchable, so I can work with that. At max salary? Lose my number.

 

Yeah. I can see that. I don't know what kind of number he is looking for. I think he has to realize he's going to take a paycut, but how much will be interesting.

 

To me, this is a completely senseless trade.

We have very few assets, few picks, and when this season ends and we lose the various expiring contracts, we won't have those either.
Are you giving away a second pick for the Vincent-Kennard switch?

And let's be clear, I'm not questioning the value of the players (Kennard >>> Vincent, no doubt) but it's the lack of strategy behind this choice that worries me.

 

I think he may re-sign too. But our numbers with him and without Luka and with the big 3 vs Luka/AR show the team, until now, is actually better off without him.

We are also good with just Bron, showing it's just the Luka/Bron pairing on the court highlighting our defensive issues and redundancy on offense.

Ideally we would move past him but it may be the best option in the summer to keep him, if all other options dry.

On Rui, I wouldn't move him for second round picks, that's terrible. We still want to make noise in the playoffs and compete this year. Luka would be extremely mad and we would be wasting a year of Bron.
We also may re-sign him, he will fit better when Bron walks. And I don't see a team offering more than the MLE for him, so keeping him under 20M would be good for us
