Lol well that's more than just a minor sticking point. I can't see the Rockets giving up Smith or Eason in this, they have enough picks to trade that they can probably get this done with DFS + picks.

Step 1: Bulls have guards. Rockets need one.

    Step 2: Bulls want Eason.
Rockets are like how about our broken down DFS who may have only played against the Lakers this year.

Step 3: Bulls are like, but how about Eason.

brad stevens downgrades, literally kicks can: genius.

and i'm not saying he's not a good gm. he is, unquestionably. but simons has been a better player this year than vuc. we don't know what will come of the new TPE (the current one got vuc). the grass and its greenery.

They were never going to do anything before the all star break since The Toilet is the hosting venue.

If they do something, they'll drop it in the middle of FA frenzy or something this summer where it'll be muted.

very interested in how the DFS/coby white thing shakes out for a few reasons, but one of which has some implications for how we feel about doing something last trade deadline and (potentially) doing nothing this trade deadline.

sorry for separate posts, but it wouldn't surprise me if the deal was already agreed upon and both sides agreed to leak this stuff.

for houston (who's giving up their FA prize and draft capital to get a guy who's expiring and meh): we protected eason!
for chicago: we got draft capital for a guy we were trying to move since the summer!

bc as sk said: that's a huge gulf.

i'm actually not a big fan. he doesn't rebound, nor does he play smart ball on either end (hence the fouls and no assists). totally fine with utah trying to sell their fans on this being what sucking for several years was for.

I feel like if we're ever going to make the Reaves/Luka backcourt work we need a defensive mainstay like AD was for us at times. JJJ could have been that guy

i think his defense is oversold (he shouldn't have gotten dpoy, not close, imo). if you want a defender, i think gobert or allen may be in play right now and would be much better fits than jjj. cheaper, too, both in trade and in salary.

anyway, doesn't matter--we didn't have three firsts to move, and that was the cost for him.

One interesting positive wrinkle here that I didn't initially notice during the Grizz - Jazz trade, one of the picks Memphis received was ours that Utah had squirreled away. I know Memphis is in their pick hoarding phase, but us getting that pick back is a new framework to a KCP deal that wasn't possible yesterday.

Like could we do our expirings and a 2nd for KCP and at least a protected return of our pick?

Why would they give us a FRP back? How is that beneficial to them?

we are taking in a salary dump because KCP is not expiring and it’s a 20 million salary cap hit.
