It’s crazy to think that AR could go from undrafted to having his jersey retired by the Lakers. I think him and Luka get at least 2 rings over the next 8 years. I said a while back, I’m done putting a ceiling on this guy. Give em hell Austin
Highlights from first games as a Laker in the California Classic. You can catch a glimpse of Mac McClung early on, so this wasn't year two. twisted on LG posted this ^^^ on page 1 of their AR thread and commented: "Super impressed with his defense and anticipation. Not sure if his game speed can translate in the NBA, but love how he decelerates at just the right times. Very Doncic-esque" ^^^ .... which was stumbled upon by gng930 tonight inadvertently, who said: "Somehow ended up on the first page and saw this gem. How foretelling"
We're past the 1/4 mark of the season, and he's still statistically better than the 2nd best SG (Ant) If he's still playing like this come All-star game, the discussion will no longer be if he's the second or third option on this team. The discussion will be if he belongs on All-NBA second or third team.
Love Austin and what he is doing, but I think the fact that Kobe was fresh out of high school and a literal teenager has to always be factored in with these kinds of early career comparisons.
Kobe was much younger, and a significantly better defender, who played in a totally different era of defenses. That has to be a factor, right? Other than that, I am more than impressed with AR this year. He's not just playing at an All-star level right now. I mean, that's a given. This is all-NBA level stuff we're seeing right now.
And I don't think Ant's playstyle would fare as well as a 2nd option on a team. Reaves could go 10 minutes without shooting and still play efficient basketball the next 10 minutes after that. ANT seems like he needs the ball to get going. I'd still take ANT but it's closer than what people outside looking in would think.
My list of players I would trade AR for is dwindling. As of now it's three: Jokic, Wemby or Shai But, their teams would not make that trade so AR is a Laker for life.
what's funny is that i think for most, giannis was on that list a couple weeks ago, but when confronted with the reality, you think again. now, i agree with your list--and feel like it *might* contain a couple other names--but the main story is that this guy has emerged as a legit star. he's ours. let's be happy. i want someone else to make me an offer i can't refuse. otherwise, i roll with the incredibly likeable homegrown star. yeah, kind of disappointing that that's what it took for it to grab yahoo attention. "ha ha white power. rite gaiz?!" it's ok because stephen jackson is unquestionably black!! kinda gross.
Those aggressive balls out drives to the basket with the body control, the handles, the Kobe-esque footwork …. and the success rate!! Holy crap Batman!
