Everything that happens in life -- is part of life. :) I'm not sure how that is even debatable. It is not death, I do agree with that.

Honestly, I don't have a clue what we're taking about now. Just going with the flow, I guess.

a season without a championship is a failure of a season. that's what sets great franchises like the lakers apart from the rest

i'm sure the players see it differently, but that's how i've always looked at it as a fan

This is what I was talking about in the off season. Ayton could average 20 with these guys because there’s so much attention with Luka and Reaves. This is what I would do when I was in the league. Just how I see the game and how it makes the team better.

Ayton was our most important acquisition since Luka. More than Reaves. Because he unlocks everyone and maximizes Luka. Luka is going nuts because there’s spacing. This might be better than Dallas spacing.

Minnesota got a guy who had no Center that deserved attention.

Ayton has soft hands. And he can finish at the rim. The skillset he can shoot. Inside presence. It’s enhanced when playing with the best player in the league. Add playing with LeBron and Reaves you have what we have.

let Lebron chill we can handle the s*** teams.

but back to what I’ve been saying Shaq Gasol Davis Ayton these guys give you enough offense where the perimeter guys can do what they want. The Lukas and Kobe’s cause that low post has respect.

    the Ayton athleticism is underrated.

Pelinka has done such a great job. Getting this guy in a buyout not trading any assests.

He can dunk at the Rim. Alley oop lob threat. Skilled can shoot. Face up and he protects the paint blocking shots and rebounding. What more do you want from your Center.? Queen was getting to his spots on the rim but Ayton kept altering his shots.

Reaves and Luka have so much spacing that they do what they want.

yes OKC is a problem but the Lakers are 15-4 you can’t ignore that. We’re blowing out s*** teams.

give me Sengun Jokic Davis Holmgren. They’re gonna get fouls guarding Ayton.

I like to see the process of building the team, it can take a few years, sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you are unlucky. There have certainly been some frustrating years where the FO did not seem like they were really trying to build the best team they could. Honestly, I feel like Jeannie Buss was too worried about the money. If the team lost money, it was out of the families pockets and then the family was unhappy. She tried to keep the team a profitable business that provided the yearly income. If a more wealthy person owns the team, they don't need the income, they need the business to increase in value. So when they are done playing and sell it, they can make a bundle then. The Buss family was pinching pennies because they could not afford to make bad decisions and could not wait while the team was unprofitable. Mistakes can really kill family ownership in sports.

Anyhow, there have been a couple of years where I did not watch as many games because I knew we were going nowhere and we didn't have any really great players. If we had a chance or had players who were reaching milestones, I tend to watch. I don't know where this years team will end out, but it is one of the better seasons since the bubble and I am watching every game.

I probabaly get a bit frustrated on this topic. I’m not sure how many people have played professional sports, but you have to really enjoy the process and the journey of it all to reach the pinnacle.

People like Kobe loved the process, of course he was only satisfied with winning. But you don’t work that hard unless you absolutely LOVE the process in all its minute details. And that’s what a lot of fans don’t get, it’s the struggle that makes winning sweet, it’s not the winning that is sweet. In fact winning is hollow without the journey.

Modern Lakers fans are a bit too spoilt, and act like winning is their god given right.

I have been saying this exact things for a couple of decades. It is the journey and the process that is what it is all about. If all you care about is the absolute end point, man don't come over to my house to watch the game. It is F'ing pointless to not appreciate the journey.

i think recently dirk talked about that being why he kept playing after his prime was clearly over. he just loved getting in the gym, doing the work, competing, etc.

durant talks a lot this way as well, as does lebron--it being about the work, etc.

i was also wondering what ox was talking about in terms of the ring being the only thing as it pertains to life outside of basketball fandom. i thought about the fact that i've probably secured a few things similar to "rings" in my professional life. but in each case, i would argue that i got them almost by not pursuing them but instead just trying to do well at whatever was in front of me, then that stuff came.

having those things happen was certainly validating, but i'm not sure it changed how i personally felt about my work or my professional abilities. like dirk, i'm probably a bit past my professional prime, but i keep finding reasons to plug away and do interesting things, even if i'm pretty sure they won't result in the same rewards.
