I would seriously give Nico a high paying FO job is I was Mark Walter. Even it's just managing the Lakers relationship brand deals with Nike, etc. Make sure the guy is taken care of. Let it be known that the Lakers take care of their own errr I meant to say acquire the best talent available

Meh..aint no way that dude made that call, all on his own. It's rather irrelevant tho, we got Luka, regardless of whatever the hell, those folks were thinking.

I don’t know if it’s factoring in tonight’s game, if so I guess it could dip a bit, but he’s averaging 37, 10, 9.5 and almost 2 steals so far. That’s crazy, having a star like this again yet again is wild.

The only smart thing the Mavs have done since the trade. They lost too many fans over it. I'm sure there are plenty like me that aren't coming back. I'm all Lakers now. They showed me they don't care about their fans.

That man was directed to trade Luka, he probably got fired for picking AD.

And not getting enough back in general. The perception seems to be he should have gotten also Austin and all the draft capital available for a trade from the Lakers.

Trading Luka Doncic and NOT getting AR back instead of Max Christie, plus even more draft capital ..... is mind bottling. Outstanding on Rob Pelinka's part and HUGEST of FAILS on Nico's part. Behind them losing Luka in the first place.

i don't understand this theory, tbh. the owner tells you to trade someone but then doesn't monitor who it's for? the simpler explanation is that nico decided they couldn't win a ring with luka and thought they could with AD in his place.

i've heard people say they didn't want to pay luka the supermax. so...they're paying AD the supermax instead? i've also heard the owners are tanking them "major league" style or something, but i don't buy this either.

harrison just overthought his situation/got overconfident, and now he won't work again in the nba.

I'll always believe that Nico had some reason to suspect that Luka may not have signed that supermax with them, despite all we've heard since about how Luka was never going to leave. It's the only explanation for both why he shopped Luka at all and why the price ended up being what it was. It's the only explanation for why Luka was seemingly valued in that trade as a somewhat distressed asset. It's the only explanation for why someone who had previously done a pretty good job building that team out of nowhere initiates the most stupid trade in league history.

We've seen it in the 9 months we've had Luka - the guy is a showman. He tries to embarrass opponents. Like Kobe, he carries himself in the game like he knows someone is going to be watching it on Hardwood Classics 20 years from now. I do think being in LA or NY appeals to him. 12 months ago the Mavs were a really good team with Luka, but Luka was hurt and they hit their ceiling the previous year. That ceiling was beating a significantly worse version of OKC in a coin flip series and then losing decisively to the C Bags in the Finals. They had traded some of their future 1sts and replaced DJJ with Thompson, which has been a downgrade. His co-star was a 32 year old small guard.

I think Nico thought there was a chance Luka would at least apply some pressure to improve the roster before signing the supermax. I think Nico (stupidly) wanted to get ahead of that, guessed that we would be one of the teams that Luka would be eyeing, and then also identified us as the only Luka suitor (i.e., one of the few teams that he'd say he'd re-sign with if it ever came to an outright trade demand) that had a legit Top 15 player that could help the Mavs stay competitive. I think Rob sniffed out that Nico would only be approaching him about this if there was some fear that Luka would leave within the next couple of years, hence why the terms of the trade made it seem like Luka was a distressed asset.

Or he could have sold them, that it was the absolute best deal, that he could get. Trade AD for what? I'm happy that we got Luka, but it's premature to be declaring, that it was the worst trade ever, type of stuff. A healthy AD and Kyrie, are a problem, especially in the playoffs, that would be a scary 1st rd series for us.

The owners gave the fans, their pound of flesh, and the Mavs have enough resources, to be a contender . They could get Irving and Davis back, and make a playoffs run, while still having a decent draft pick next summer.

We up big right now tho

You didn't mention it was reported that before the Lakers, Nico checked with T-Wolves for Ant and the Bucks for Giannis, and was turned down by both.

Shrug..we'll have to see how it plays out with Irving, but AD has played in, about the same amount of games as Luka, over the last 3 seasons.
