Yeah it was obvious, but many folks here wanted to put him at the 4 and Lebron at the 3, and get another big, like Kessler. And they would get all mad when I brought up what seemed to be AD's low key pouting imo, which turned into high key when he went on national television, expressing his desire to play the 4.

 

not sure where from, as most folks saw AD as a center. it was AD that didn't/doesn't. most people who even entertained the idea of getting him a center to placate him wanted to make sure that center was a very specific kind (one that could shoot from distance, most importantly).

aside from the westbrook trade, the biggest problem we had after the ring was that our two best players both needed to play pf, and as time went on, each became less equipped to defend as a wing.

anyway, as probably the biggest AD apologist on here, i wasn't saying he was a pf.

yes, but also i'm not sure why we have tremendous interest in gafford after we got ayton? hayes is doing fine in his non-starting role, and again, i'm pretty sure we will play some minutes without a center (by choice). i'd rather use trade assets to get some perimeter athleticism. maybe we can get involved in a three-cornered deal in which gafford goes to someone who needs a center more than we do.

Yeah I mean Gafford is an upgrade on Hayes, so I'd be happy to have him and turn a solid center rotation into an excellent one. But this isn't our biggest need.

 

Klay is available for trade.I am not sure that I will even trade Bronny for him

 

I made a post about in back in July of 2024. I think you mentioned Lebron should play the 5 and AD the 4 or something to that extent. But there have been a lot of conversations on here regarding AD, and what position he should play.

 

I'm surprised at how the last few years have gone for Klay. Not that he's declined this much, he had two of the worst injuries back to back. But it seems like he could have stayed in GS, but wanted too much money. Then with the Mavs he's insisted on starting even though it's been pretty clear that wasn't best for the team, even pre-Luka trade. A little more of a "me first" guy than I thought.

 

If we addressed the wing issue and unloaded Vando in the process, this works as a secondary deal just cause Luka likes him.

I guess you could get both Gafford and Max in a deal for expirings and a first. But again, Nico will have to go into WITSEC if he does that.

 

that sounds like something i'd say...because i believe it! defensively, we struggled when AD had to play post defense against centers because we then had no shotblocking elsewhere, so yeah, against jokic, i want lebron or rui on him, not AD. on offense, AD is a center.

 

i think it was less "me first" and more about feeling disrespected. gs could have offered him a bit more, imo. he'd have possibly taken a bench role there had they done so. but they were kinda looking for a way out, and i think he saw that.
