The only time we actually bent over for LeBron, was to go and get AD, something he specifically asked for , in a very public manner. We won a Championship after doing so too. The only other thing, LeBron James specifically asked for, was to go and get Kyrie, which we did not do. Ironically Dallas did, and that move got them to the finals.

Lebron James didn't specifically ask for Russell Westbrook. ( He and AD )asked for 3 players..Dame, Derozan and Westbrook. It's pretty clear to me, that James wanted the first two and AD wanted Westbrook .

Most media people think, that LeBron wanted JJ Redick as the HC. I don't know if that is true or not. However nobody seems to have a problem with that today.

We did do a solid for him in drafting Bronny. I agree with that, because he made it very plain that he wanted to play with his son. Was that some kind of franchise altering move that cost us anything. Nope.

The anti Lebron stuff gets over the top around here sometimes. He was our best player, we made a couple of moves to acquiesce to his wishes. That's what teams do.

We immediately did the same thing for Luka didn't we? The trade get rescinded, but we made the effort. We went after two guys Luka wanted this offseason. Nobody is complaining about it.

Folks need to get over this anti Lebron s***. Lebron has been good for the Lakers. Nobody wanted to come here, and play with the young core. Most people and some of our fans, claimed that he only came here for business opportunities, not to win. That was BS, and frankly, the only reason that we have Luka today, is that we bent over for LeBron, and traded the young core for AD! So miss me with this anti Lebron James BS.

I'm going to do what Kobe asked us to do, embrace this dude and get behind him. Because he's here to win, and hopefully we get one more chip out of him, before he hangs up his sneakers.

Luka just got here, I wouldn't put too much stock, into how tight he is with JJ yet. We need to win, Luka wants to compete for Championships. If JJ pulls another faceplant in the playoffs this season. He needs to go,we don't have time to wait, for him to figure out how to be successful in the playoffs. We can't afford to take anything for granted man, 4 years ago, Golden State was the NBA Champion. Things change quickly in this League, you must take advantage of your opportunities when they present themselves. It's not a given that you're automatically, going to get another one soon.

I like this team, I think we have a legit shot, that being said, failure should be punished IMO.

No one expects him to faceplant. Why are you even wasting your breath on this. And it’s NOT division series or he gets fired or they blow up the really nice roster and fire Rob. You’re wrong. ;) Keep tense about it though.

I said if he did, the only reference point to refer to, is what he's actually done. A repeat is unacceptable.

So I'm going to disagree with you on this part. If we don't get past the 2nd rd, someone does deserve to be fired. That would mean we've come up short 4 seasons in a row in the playoffs, god forbid it's another 1st rd exit, that's 3 consecutive first round exits. What team with Championship aspirations, rewards s*** like that?

Luka doesn't change that narrative, he makes it more urgent IMO. We are not Sacramento LT, Championships are the goal. If you fall short you have to evaluate everything.

Again I like this squad,I think we have a legit shot. That's the optimistic part of me. The pragmatic part of me contends, that failure to reach your goals repeatedly, should be punished.

So no..I absolutely do not agree, that it's irrelevant what happens this season, and we should wait, and evaluate everything in another 3-4 seasons. Nah

I'm not tense about anything, the playoffs are what counts, they don't come until April. So I'm going to do what I do, root for the win in every game, and than make a definitive determination about the team, after the playoffs. I'm just setting out my idea of what I consider to be a failure that requires action.

Hopefully that scenario, it wont happen, and like Toklat said, we will all be happy and celebrating this chip!

Meh..Denver fired a championship winning HC and GM, two seasons after winning it all. Then went out and took Okc to 7 games. They are also universally picked ahead of us by all the media pundits, and a lot of fans on this board. What's Idiotic is repeatedly excusing failure.

The problem is, there are a lot of good teams in the west and who ever wins it, there is going to be some luck involved. If we completely underperform then there has to be some accountability. However, if we played well, improved and really played towards our ceiling, but someone like Jokic just has a career year and completely dominates everyone, I would not necessarily want to blow things up if that happens. With all these teams, it is just staying healthy, building depth so your top 7 guys are healthy in the playoffs. Tons of luck involved. You have to be ready to take advantage.

I agree with the sentiment, now I consider Luka to be equivalent to Jokic, especially when Luka is in shape. I also consider Lebron to be a superior player, to anyone Denver has outside of Jokic. So I would expect to beat those guys. That being said, if I felt like we performed at our best and just lost to a superior team, I can accept that being the case.

This is a fair point but I don't think JJ faces the same issues
Vogel was a scapegoat for the Brick debacle and it was the classic maybe if we change the coach maybe he can make it work
    Ham lost the locker room.

If JJ loses Luka, he's obviously out but if he shows improvement I think they give him one more year

Good luck this year JJ. New year, new challenges, a star on his way out, a star on his way up, semi-stars hoping to be full blown stars, others hanging on for dear life. Should be fun.

JJ now practicing with the team too

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- After making his team run a series of full-court sprints to finish its third day of training camp Thursday, Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick admitted what helped his players' conditioning might have hurt his popularity in the locker room.

"I don't know if they like me right now," Redick said.

The second-year coach ended his inaugural season on the sideline in L.A. by issuing a directive to his team to get into "championship shape" this offseason, and the training camp drills are only reinforcing the mandate.
L.A. ended its last practice before its six-game preseason slate tips off Friday in Palm Desert, California, against the Phoenix Suns with a gamut of lung-pumping runs. Players had to run six court lengths in 34 seconds, followed by a short break; then 10 court lengths in 60 seconds, followed by a short break; and finally, six more court lengths in 34 seconds.

Redick joined the team for the final push.

"I just ran the last six," said Redick, still flush in the face from the workout, "and I'm good [not running anymore for the day]."

LOL latest injury update Friday Oct 3, JJ Redick will not be making the trip to Palm Desert with the team for the pre-season opener against the Suns ..... due to a pulled hamstring in practice. An MRI has been scheduled.

From this I take that we will still play some small ball (the "switching team")

Also found interesting the "we have no lockdown defenders". I'm pretty sure we have a 2/3 year plan already designed by JJ/Rob to get Dort, Herb or whoever as part of the next core with Luka/AR. Hell, maybe even Ellis that have barely played in preseason and just lost more minutes to Russ today.
With Luka extended and cap space available in the upcoming summers, we may even have gentlemen agreements with a couple guys, like Ellis

    Great stuff by ESPN, btw

i think the group he leaned on for stretches of last year was really good. you just can't play that way full-time like he tried (he would argue was forced to) in the playoffs.

but you can play almost any five of lebron/luka/reaves/rui/vando/laravia/smart and employ a switch-heavy scheme, imo. in almost any case, you'd have at least two competent ballhandlers on offense, too.

Out coached again IMO - particularly with his use of Smart.

GS defense involved a lot of blitzing and they really got the Lakers in trouble when AR had to come in without Luka. Once the blitz hit and AR got rid of it the Lakers looked lost. Gabe is supposedly a PG but he seems to have forgetten how to play the position. Smart would have give them a guy who has enough confidence to attack the 4 on 3 created by the blitz

Then on the other side of the ball - he was trying to use gabe to match up on stepgh but then kerr flipped it by having butler initiate the pnr with steph screening. That created a huge mess. Smart would have fixed that as you could put him on Jimmy and hide Luka.

Smart is a roller coaster player but he can do stuff which guys like Gabe/Laravia/Rui just can't do for you
