Just checked out a cool article on Reggie's draft history. Wanted to add in the Reggie factor to the Need/Availability stuff. Round 1 #10: Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia -Rated 6.62 on NFL.com - Good NFL Starter w/ Pro Bowl Potential --Raiders satisfy their greatest need and get a likely stalwart for years to come. ---Smith fits the Reggie stats. ----I think this is the guy I'm pegging for the Raiders if he's still there. Round 2 #41: Brian O'Neill, OT, Pitt -Rated 5.71 on NFL.com --At 297, O'Neill would be the lightest OT Reggie has ever drafted - but only by 5 pounds. So I won't remove him. Chukwuma Okorafor, OT, Western Michigan -Rated 5.6 on NFL.com --Either O'Neill or Okorafor both have tremendous assets (athleticism for O'Neill and size for Okorafor). Either could begin rounding into a future LT. Both will need work. --Okorafor met all the Reggie stats. Rasheem Green, DI, USC -Rated 6.0 on NFL.com --The only player that I might change my plans for. He won't be ready for a huge role this season, but he's going to be a beast. ---Green meets all Reggie stats. It's worth noting that Green is rated higher, and he meets all the Reggie stats. So let's keep our eyes peeled. Green, if available, could shoot to the top of the list. Both DI and OT are needs. Round 3 Tim Settle, DT, Virginia Tech -Rated 5.9 on NFL.com --Settle lacks the hand size and 40 time of a Reggie pick. Da'Shawn Hand, DI, Alabama -Rated 5.73 on NFL.com --Assuming the Raiders add an OT in Round 2, it's time for DL. Hand projects as a run suffer. Settle has a questionable arrest on his record, but he's a big impact player. ---Hand meets all the Reggie stats. Desmond Harrison, OT, West Georgia -Rated 5.49 on NFL.com --Unsure. Geron Christian, OT, Louisville -Rated 5.53 on NFL.com --If, for some reason, we don't go OL in Round 2, we could pick up an OL here. Harrison is a bit of a question mark, and he may be the type of player the Raiders want to avoid. Tremendous athleticism though. Christian can play both Tackle spots, so he'd be ideal - slide in at RT now and slide over to LT when Penn sails off. ---At 298, he's a couple pounds under Reggie size. Hand and Christian might be higher on Reggie's draft boards than Settle. Round 4 #110 I'm certainly starting to look for best available, so this could get fluid at this point. If we go WR, some good ones: DaeSean Hamilton, WR, Penn State -Rated 5.7 on NFL.com --Hamilton falls short on hand size and arm length. Equanimeous St. Brown, WR, Notre Dame -Rated 5.69 on NFL.com --Hamilton is apparently an incredibly high character guy who had some big numbers over his college career. St. Brown is a personal favorite of mine, and although he at times was neutralized, he also a) blocks well and b) was a clutch player. ---St. Brown meets all Reggie stats. ----He's immediately first on the list of WR in round 4 or later. If we add trench players: Derrick Nnadi, DI, FSU -Rated 5.79 on NFL.com --He's a slower guy on the Reggie stats. RJ McIntosh, DI, Miami -Rated 5.61 on NFL.com --Unsure. Alex Cappa, OT, Humboldt State -Rated 5.42 on NFL.com --Meets Reggie stats. ---Not a bad pickup if we go OT here. If we want secondary help: Tony Brown, CB, Alabama -Rated 5.6 on NFL.com --His vertical is a bit low. St. Brown or Cappa good possibilities here. Round 5 #159 #171 With two selections... Josh Adams meets the Reggie stats. If he's around, he's Oakland's guy. Rounds 5 and 6 Justin Jones, DT, NC State -Rated 5.35 --Low bench, slower 3-cone Brett Toth, OT, Army -Rated 5.24 - an intriguing project --A little light, low bench Jamarco Jones, OT, Ohio State -Rated 5.86 - steady but low ceiling --He fails four areas. Timon Parris, OT, Stony Brook -Rated 5.51 - played both tackle spots --Meets all Reggie stats Deontay Burnett, WR, USC -Rated 5.46 --Lighter, smaller hands Javon Wims, WR, Georgia -Rated 5.37 --Smaller hands, lower speed in 3-cone and 40 Kameron Kelly, S, SDSU -Rated 5.34 (could also be a CB) --Low 40, arm length, hand size Only two guys measure up - Adams and Parris. Round 6 #185: #192: #212: #216: #217: --With 5 picks here, don't be surprised if the Raiders end up picking up a DL named Reginald Khalil McKenzie. Tray Matthews, S, Auburn -Rated 5.37 --lower 40 time, lower 20-yard shuttle
Distilling all that down: 1.10: Roquan Smith, LB, Georgia 2.41: Rasheem Green, DI, USC OR: Brian O'Neill, OT, Pitt 3.75: Da'Shawn Hand, DI, Alabama OR: Geron Christian, OT, Louisville 4.110: Equanimeous St. Brown, WR, Notre Dame OR: Alex Cappa, OT, Humboldt State 5.159: Josh Adams, RB, Notre Dame 5.171: Timon Parris, OT, Stony Brook
Draft Smith...bye bye Bowman? Edmunds...Mack, we have your potential replacement...resign Bowman? Floated out there...like scenario one better BUT draft DL Vea and resign Bowman me good with. Then Dez that Bryant guy that SI thinks we could try to sign. Nelson and Bryant on the outside, Cooper in the slot? Not bad...
I know he’s a Bronco, but CJ Anderson was waived. PFF’s 6th-rated RB. It’s not an ideal situation, as we have $ committed to both Lynch and Martin, but Anderson is probably better than both.
It was brought up somewhere where Anderson could be a cap casualty and that's happened... Agree with you.
Raiders exercise Cooper's fifth year. Good, but he's due a giant raise in 2019. They also have added Daryl Worley (CB, Eagles, Panthers). He rated as one of the worst CBs in the league last season (58.9 rating, 89th at his position) and violated a few league policies...
Since Mayock has said that Roquan Smith will be gone and has suggested Mike McGlinchey, I'll admit I'm kind of excited. I like both guys, but if McGlinchey ends up being the guy, I'll be stoked. Notre Dame OLs have had good success in the NFL, with 15 OL drafted in the last 17 years, including three first-rounders, and McGlinchey is one of the best. Since 2000, they've sent three Centers, including one first rounder - Jeff Faine (56 Career AV, 124 starts) and a sixth rounder - John Sullivan (career AV 57, 109 starts), to the NFL. They've had six Guards drafted, including Zack Martin in the first round (four-time Pro-Bowler, two-time All-Pro, 48 AV, 64 starts, in only four years) and his brother Nick who was a 2nd round pick (started 14 games last year). They've had six Tackles drafted, including Ronnie Stanley (6th pick) (27 starts, 14 AV so far in two seasons), Mike Gandy (48 AV career, 106 starts), Ryan Harris (3rd rounder, 38 AV, 70 starts), and Sam Young (13 AV as a journeyman). Among 1st round OLs recently coming out of Notre Dame, the pedigree is impressive. The three of them have averaged 12.3 starts and 8 AV as rookies, and one of them was both a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro. For comparison's sake, Rodney Hudson and Osemele were 9 AV, Penn was 8, Jackson was 7, and Newhouse was 6. Wanna get pumped up? Read this: https://www.silverandblackpride.com...-mcglinchey-just-might-be-in-play-for-raiders 96.9 pass blocking efficiency last season. Number 1 run blocking grade among left tackles (95). Grade of 90.6 from PFF is the best of all left tackle prospects.
I've run some more numbers, this time factoring in Mayock's scouting reports. + is best, no negatives are second best, fewer negatives are next best. They're in order here by pick: 1. +Roquan Smith LB Mike McGlinchey OT 2. -Brian O'Neill OT --Rasheem Green DI ---Chukwuma Okorafor OT 3. -Da'Shawn Hand DI -Geron Christian --Tim Settle DT --Desmond Harrison OT 4. -DaeSean Hamilton WR -Derrick Nnadi DI -Equanimeous St. Brown WR -Alex Cappa OT ---Tony Brown CB ---RJ McIntosh DI 5.1 -Josh Adams 5.2 -Timon Parris OT ---Justin Jones DT ---Brett Toth OT ---Deontay Burnett WR ---Javon Wims WR ----Kameron Kelly S ----Jamarco Jones OT 6.1 --Tray Matthews S 6.2 6.3 6.4 6.5 Reginald McKenzie
I think they trade down. Seems to be the consensus of a qb is available. Maybe add another mid round pick in the process
Honestly, with Conley and Melifonwu on the roster, those three would be tremendous talent. Can they get onto the field?
Im not big on draft stuff but just checked in and see Arizona had our pick. Is that a surprise move? I've been eading Trodg's reports didn't see one pulling that move. What's the deal
Miller is very good but I feel this is too high for him. He probably would have been around in the second. Sign Bowman! No. 79 to the Steelers for WR Bryant. I like him but I hope he has his s**t together off the field.
I tried to steer clear of trades, as they complicate things. I think that after Mayock's mock draft, people were wondering about dealing the pick. Smith and McGlinchey were the guys Oakland was reportedly targeting. They went 8 and 9, I think.
So, without an LB, but with OT and WR presumably addressed, day two could look different. Gotta look at some LB options. Wouldn’t be surprised if we snag DI anyway. Love the trade from 10. Like the 3rd for Bryant. Not loving Miller at 15. Seems a reach.
